In addition, this dense foliage is available for use over an extremely long period - from May to November, and even longer in mild winter temperatures. The pipe winches can slowly change their color to a bright yellow or yellow orange in autumn.
Care tips for the pipe winch
Pipe winches generally only require minimal maintenance outdoors, which is mainly limited to regular, if necessary also generous pruning, so that it does not spread too far in an uncontrolled manner.
tip: However, an appropriate illumination cut should be made on the entire plant at least every 3 years! Especially since the respective side shoots can spread up to 2 m annually.

tip: Alternatively, in spring or autumn humus can also be worked in around the pipe winch plant.
The pipe winch also produces a more or less inconspicuous, yellowish bloom from May to early August, from which a violet-colored fruit, about 5 cm long, forms, which apparently resembles a capsule and thus appears very conspicuous.
Use the pipe winch as a container plant
Pipe winches can also be planted in tubs, but should then be set up in a location that is as shady as possible. When planting pots, it is important to ensure that the pipe winch then has an enormously high water consumption and therefore has to be watered several times a day, especially in the summer months.
tip: The non-hardy, South American subspecies “Gigas” is much more suitable for planting pots, which is ideal for shading the conservatory. Especially since this plant also has a more impressive bloom!
